THANK YOU from JIM WILLIS GENERAL CHAIR of MESI

Leanne Pedro

Hi All,

Just wanted to write to express a big THANK YOU to all who attended, volunteered, coached, guarded, officiated, or swam at the 3rd Annual Maine Long Course Championships @ Colby College from July 11-14.

There are a few people that do deserve special mention for their tireless work during the 4-day event:  ALL of our officials led by Meet Referee Amanda Gleason and Meet Admin Ref Kean Brown, meet manager Louis Arruda, announcer Eric Notfall, my assistant T.J. Willis and the Colby Lifeguard & Pool staff. There are too many more to list that gave their time which enabled us to have such a successful meet.

The 4-day meet, and the only long (50-meter) course meet in Maine met with success, lots of great swims, and many enthusiastic swimmers on deck.  The highlight of the meet was that all of our volunteer positions were always filled by a member of the 14 teams at the meet.  HUGE accomplishment!

This year's meet had about 300 swimmers, from at least 3 states and Ontario, Canada. We plan to continue to run the meet in its present or slightly altered format next year at about the same time. Please feel free to send your thoughts about this year's or next year's meet to mesigeneralchair@gmail.com.

In the coming year, Maine Swimming is planning several events/meets for the swimmers. More info will be available soon. We are also in need of more officials to help operate our meets for the next several years.  I do see that we already have many who would like to help and what better way to help than to be on deck as an official?!   Access information on becoming an official on maineswimming.org, and if you need more info, please contact Amanda Gleason: mesiofficialschair@gmail.com.

Thank You to all.  It was indeed my sincere pleasure to be around so many who were just looking for the swimmers to achieve their best.
