Observed Swims for High School Meets

To all Maine Coaches, The High School Conference and State Meets will be occurring in the next few weeks.  If you have swimmers that are properly registered with MSI they could have their swims observed by USA Officials at their championship meet.  There are some slight rule variations that officials will be looking for.  Rules that differ from High School to USA include, the breaststroke pull down where there does not need to be separation of the hands before the 1st fly kick, and backstroke where the swimmers can turn over and glide/kick before making the turn.  Swimmers are not allowed to have any tape on them in USA Swimming, thus voiding any qualified swim.

I am attaching the memo that we received from Chris Branch/USA Swimming on observed swims.  Swimmers do not need to have their times observed to qualify for Winter Champs, but if they wish to go to Sectionals, Jr Nationals, or US Nationals/US Open their swims must be observed by a USA Official.  The officials are working to make sure that they have coverage for the meets.  If you have any officials that will be at the meets and they want to help please notify Bob Russell.

If you wish to have a swimmer observed please notify Bob Russell mainernow@hotmail.com. He will need the swimmers name, HS, and the meets that they will be participating in.  If you know what events they will be swimming that would be great also but some HS coaches may have various plans for your swimmers.
